The Low Carbon Performance Awards seek to identify new processes, designs or technical solutions, technologies, or other innovations that were introduced in 2008 having significantly reduced or assisted the reduction of carbon emissions in buildings, and which are capable of wider application.

i-prophets energy services were awarded this prestigious award for the introduction of the display energy certification module to its digitalenergy software framework.

“We are very pleased with the recognition of the hard work of our team has invested in the production of the interface” said Richard Hipkiss, Sales and Marketing Director at i-prophets energy service “the award is as much to recognise our clients and users of the software who have been pioneers in the implementation of DEC’s”

The idea behind the display energy certificate online wizard and with handheld support to be produced within the wider framework of digitalenergy was simple, to make the roll out of DEC’s the success that it should be!

A big challenge to the development team in i-prophets energy services was the ever changing landscape of the operational rating calculation. The team were rewarded for the use of the software framework to create the wizard on accreditation from CLG, over 6 weeks before any other organisation developed a solution.

The module was developed with significant input from practicing consultants and CIBSE low carbon energy assessors, focusing on the accurate and productive collection of information, and advanced processing through an online web based interface.

The team developed a hand held application with three key requirements:

  1. Remove the need for paper survey sheets to speed up completion
  2. Capture an audit trail in terms of survey information and pictures
  3. Interact with customers to provide awareness of the process through the survey

All three were achieved in a way that increased the onsite productivity of a DEC assessor by up to 50%, this was a big encouragement for assessor to actually make site visits!

With the information collected on site transferred directly to the web application the time off site was reduced to a minimum, with the assessor required to select the appropriate recommendations at final quality assurance.

Since the application is also online it enables the assessor to work on multiple certificates and reports concurrently.

The display energy certificate wizard is interactive with other elements of the digitalenergy frame work such as the online building log book, enabling not only energy information but important building construction and management information to be collated in a single place.
