With an annual consumption on the site nearing 14mWh the team at Arena Coventry Ltd couldn't wait for utility cost to peak before tackling energy management. With an already stretched facilities management team maintaining the high standards of operation that the Arena provides they called in i-Prophets Energy Services to help teach them the rules to the energy game.

Set within a site covering more than 40 acres, the Ricoh Arena is unlike any other development of its kind in the UK. With its state-of-the-art conference, banqueting, exhibition, hotel and sports facilities, the multi-purpose complex has already won awards for its design. The Arena is run and managed by Arena Coventry Ltd, a joint venture company formed by Coventry City Council and the Alan Edward Higgs Charity.
Opening in August 2005 the Ricoh Arena boasts a 32,000-seater stadium, 9,000m2 of exhibition and conference space, a 71 bedroom hotel, a 100 seater restaurant and the largest Casino in the UK amongst its attractions. All setting a challenge in terms of energy management due to the complexity and nature of the operation. .

Following the commission of a basic survey in earthly 2007 the Arena Management team soon realized that the venues escalating energy costs were possible to reduce and sustain, but with such a complex site the question was where to start. i-Prophets were engaged with the simple brief to 'make us energy managers'. Following the process of your virtual energy manager the Arena facilities team are already seeing significant savings.
Taking the long term view
The Arena were convinced by i-Prophets to appoint an individual to the position of Energy Manager, the your virtual energy manager program enabled Alan Pickering, deputy facilities manager to take on the role and increase his energy management knowledge through guided learning and experience. The Arena have also implemented digitalenergy to provide energy reporting, energy performance certification for both asset and operational rating and a structured information management tool through the log book module.
