making energy child's play
Many organizations do not think they are large enough to be concerned about the overhead of energy, Kids Allowed was an excellent example of this with energy being a relatively small cost in proportion to staffing and other overheads. However with the number of nurseries operated by the group energy costs continued to increase to a level of concern.
"For a growing organization like Kids Allowed energy was not high on our agenda until i-Prophets energy services spoke to us and made us realize how much we could save through good management. Now we don't need to worry about energy because i-Prophets does for us. " Jennie Johnson , Managing Director , Kids Allowed
About kids allowed
Kids Allowed was established in May 2003 in response to the direct personal experiences of the founders of the company when sourcing childcare services for their own children. They had the growing realization that existing provision was out of step with the complex and demanding needs of family life today.
Kids Allowed is committed to the protection of the environment. Wherever practically possible, they implement eco-friendly practice. This includes recycling waste, use of materials that are from renewable or sustainable resources and sourcing fresh food from local producers

strong corporate identity
Taking a different view
As with almost every aspect of the Kids Allowed approach energy was no exception. From a very early stage the environmental and sustainable approach was a key aspiration of the management team, measured in carbon and not pound notes. For a SME this is a pioneering approach to demonstrate, and actually implement, a corporate social responsibility policy to rival that of the large retail and commercial organizations.
This view was the driver that the consultants at i-Prophets energy services focused upon.
Hands off approach
With no intentions of appointing an energy manager it was clear that i-Prophets would become the virtual energy manager for Kids Allowed. Liaising with the organizations senior project manager the implementation of awareness and management tools have become a reality. Through the virtual energy management program i-Prophets hope to realize a minimal 10% carbon reduction for the organization.
